In the group stage of the tournament, as well as at Euro 2016, 24 teams will play. This will be the first European Championship to be held not in one or two bordering countries, but in 11 stadiums in 11 cities in 10 countries (11 UEFA national associations). The original list included one more stadium, but the Irish authorities abandoned the idea of holding their part of the tournament in the capital of the country Dublin, as a result of which the Irish part of the tournament will be moved to St. Petersburg. In addition, the Spanish Championship matches will not be held in Bilbao, as originally planned, but in Seville.
